Twin Rivers is a unique and highly ambitious independent Australian film in the tradition of classic period dramas such as ‘The Shiralee’, ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ and Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’. Australia 1939. A young country recovering from The Great Depression now stands on the brink of World War Two. With dreams of finding a better life, Thomas and William Norton (played by real life brothers Darren and Matthew Holmes) are embarking on a 500 mile journey on foot across southeastern Australia.
But when their journey takes an unexpected and unfortunate turn at the hands of petty thief, the two brothers find themselves embraced by a riverside community. As new friendships are formed and new dreams are discovered, the brothers find their loyalty to each other challenged in an emotionally charged story of love and betrayal. Over 6 years in the making, Twin Rivers features a talented young cast, a captivating original score and stunning cinematography. Produced without the aid of financial support and involving over 300 volunteers, the making of Twin Rivers is a truly amazing achievement, filmed at locations across South Australia including the Lower Flinders Ranges, the Barossa Valley, the Mallee Plains, Murray Bridge and the Mt. Lofty Ranges. The remarkable story behind this stunning film is revealed in a one hour behind-the-scenes documentary and a new audio commentary created exclusively for this DVD release.
