Florence grew rich and powerful on the silk-trade and banking, evidenced by an incredible wealth of cultural history preserved in its building and other works of art. The city is dominated by it’s great cathedral and adjacent bell-tower and the famour Baptistery.
Ranging from Palestrina to Puccini, the music includes an excerpt from the latter’s opera Gianna Schicchi, set in Florence, and arias from Verdi, instrumental excerpts by Rossini, a poignant extract from Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp and his mock-serenade from Don Giovanni, enging with a transcription for guitar of a Caprice by the Demon violinist Paganini.
